Pennsylvania bicycle accident lawyer Caroline Munley today called for the Pennsylvania Senate to pass pending legislation that would require motorists to provide space for cyclists crossing the road.
The adoption of the amendment to secure passage for the laws of motion states is bound to reduce injuries and save lives among Pennsylvania cyclists, said Munley of Pennsylvania personal injury firm of Munley, Munley & Cartwright, PC, which represents accident with a bicycle and car accident victims throughout the state and the Northeast.
As increased use of bicycles is beneficial to our environment for cyclists to health, the state and drivers should be initiated to improve the safety of bicycle riders, Munley said.
In December, the House approved the legislation of a Member, House Bill 170, which would require drivers to reduce speed and allow at least four feet of space between their car and a bike rider when passing a cyclist is going to same direction.
The bill also would prohibit converting a car into a riders bike path, and would require bicycle riders to ride as close as possible to the right curb or edge of the road.
If the bill is approved, Pennsylvania will join 19 other states that have adopted this safe passing laws, according to the Associated Press.
Munley, whose law firm is investigating the bicycle-car accidents on behalf of clients injured, said drivers often fail to generate adequate room for cyclists. Collisions between cars and bicycles will inevitably result in serious injury to the rider, including the head and limb injuries, he said.
Bicycle riders
is extremely vulnerable to reckless drivers to the crowd away from the street or fail to give them at junctions and intersections, Munley said. Cyclists have the right to be safe on our roads, and we support laws that codify these rights and safety of cyclists.
Munley said one cyclist injured in collision with a motor vehicle may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, mental anguish and other related losses. An attorney plays a critical role in pursuing a claim of negligence in a lawsuit accident, he said.
Our law will continue to defend the rights of injured cyclists, Munley said. Each rider was injured in an accident involving a car that owes itself to receive a free review of their case and describes what legal options you may have.
Regardless of the current state law or pending legislation, drivers are required for the safety of others, sharing the road.
